Creating Prints
Close attention
goes into the creation of each Lyon limited edition print. The
intention is always to create a print that is as close as possible
in look and impact to the original work upon which it is based.
Every image in
the Land of Ammaze series was generated on the computer, then
saved for print production in large format.

Art Prints:
8.5" x 11"
These are printed on enhanced
paper with archival inks. They are backed with Art Board and
encased in clear cello envelopes to keep them clean and rigid
enough not to bend in shipping. The image occupies an (approximate)
8' x 10" area on the sheet of paper. They are $29.00 each.
Limited Edition
Prints: 13" x 19"
All 13"
x 19" Limited Edition Prints are printed on waterproof,
heavy-duty enhanced paper with archival inks. The image occupies
an (approximate) 12' x 18" area on the sheet of paper. They
are shipped in heavy-duty mailing tubes. They are $150 each.
Print run is
500 prints, 20 Artist Proofs. You can ask for your specific number
to see if it is available.
Artist Proofs,
both sizes:
$400 or more,
depending on availability.
THE PRINTING
PROCESS:
Under the artist's
supervision, the original image is placed into a print application.
Next the image is printed out repeatedly until the print itself
matches, as closely as possible, the original in color and detail.
Every effort is taken to make sure that the finished print is
as sharp and finely detailed as the original.
When the artist
approves the final proof, a limited number of prints and Artist's
Proofs are made which are remarkably close in every way to the
look and feeling of the original work. These are printed either
on high quality, archival paper or art-grade canvas with archival
inks to ensure long life and color fastness.
The artist next
signs and numbers each print individually. The signature and
number is Angela Treat Lyon's guarantee that the print meets
artist's high quality standards, and that the edition consists
of only the number stated.
For instance,
"Lyon 25/250" means that the artist has approved this
print, and that it is number 25 out of a total edition of 250
prints.
What is an
Artist Proof?
Angela Treat
Lyon Artist's Proofs are prints that are close to final-version
perfect, yet have variations from the main run of the edition.
These are thought to be more valuable. The proof is like a limited
edition within the limited edition.
Because modern equipment and the professionalism of the printers
Angela Treat Lyon works with create a product that is uniformly
excellent, Lyon proofs are only slightly different from non-proofs.
|
Usually around
20 out of the total run are signed as proofs, and those become
the "limited edition within the limited edition."
They are more
valuable because they are visually identifiable as a variation
from the norm, and because the artist has chosen them as proofs.
It is these minor variations, along with the artist's signature,
that make the proofs more valuable.

If you are a
print collector, and you prefer proofs, then that "A/P"
by the artist's signature is important to you, and you will want
to purchase the Artist's Proof of the limited edition you choose.
You can request specific A/P numbers for your collection. If
these are already sold, you can request to get as close to your
chosen number as possible if you want. Angela Treat Lyon's Land
of Ammaze Artist Proofs currently sell for $400.
Both Limited
Edition Prints and Artist's Proofs are as aesthetically and technically
perfect as the artist can make them. They are printed archival
inks, which mean they will be light fast and long lasting. Printed
on 13" x 19" surface, the image occupies an approximate
12" x 18" area on the sheet of paper.
